Welcome to my structural engineering blog! I’m Arun Kishore, a Structural EIT based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. This blog is a space where I plan to document my continuous learning journey, share insights, and discuss the diverse world of structural engineering – from codes and standards to design procedures, innovative ideas, and material-specific topics.
For a look at some of my project work, you can visit my portfolio: portfolio.struct.work.
I’m a seasoned structural EIT with a strong foundation in both US and Canadian building codes. My experience covers a range of sectors, including residential, commercial, and industrial projects. I’m proficient with advanced software tools like Revit, RAM, and ETABS, which I use to ensure structural integrity, code compliance, and to develop cost-effective solutions.
Beyond traditional engineering, I’m passionate about automating workflows and streamlining processes to improve efficiency and project outcomes. My approach aims to reimagine structural engineering, driving innovation and setting new standards. I enjoy interfacing with architects and contractors, providing support and innovative solutions to structural challenges.
I hold a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) from the Georgia Institute of Technology. My familiarity with a broad range of codes, including BCBC, CSA, ACI, AISC, ASCE, and IBC, has been instrumental in my career and helped me successfully pass the Professional Engineer Licensure (PE & P.Eng.) Examination.
Currently, I’m a Structural EIT at Associated Engineering in the Vancouver area, where I’ve been since August 2019. My responsibilities include supporting professional engineers in design preparation, cost estimation, developing cost-effective solutions, and participating in scheduling, budgeting, tendering, and inspection. I’m also involved in delivering projects on budget and schedule, engaging in a collaborative work environment, supporting contract administration by reviewing shop drawings and RFIs, developing design documents, and performing site visits for structural inspections and condition assessments. One of my notable projects involved the structural assessment of over 90 houses for the DehCho Housing Restoration, including detailed structural repairs and construction oversight for homes damaged by flooding.
Prior to my current role, I gained experience as a Structural Engineer at Uzun + Case, LLC in Atlanta, and held positions at Enercon Services and Palmer Engineering Company. Throughout these roles, I’ve applied my knowledge to design concrete, steel, masonry, and wood structures, prepared detailed design drawings using various software, and worked collaboratively on diverse projects.
I have an entrepreneurial spirit and a practical mindset, and I’m always eager to tackle new challenges and learn within the structural engineering domain. I look forward to sharing what I learn and discussing transformative engineering solutions with you here!
